JNCCN – The Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network is a peer-reviewed publication dedicated to improving the quality of cancer care by providing the latest information about best clinical practices, oncology outcomes, and new research initiatives to our readership. This information is provided through the publication of the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology™. JNCCN also publishes review articles analyzing recommendations and detailing current oncologic practice as well as clinical research articles discussing new advances that will become standard practices in the future. Further goals are to address oncology practice at all stages and presentations, to enhance communication among oncology experts in both academic and community settings, and to provide a forum for discussion and commentary.

JNCCN is an official journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). The editorial board and associate editors include more than 44 experts in all forms of cancer and cancer care from leading cancer centers across the United States. Most members of the editorial board are also panel chairs for the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology™.

JNCCN is published by Cold Spring Publishers, LLC, in Cold Spring Harbor, New York. JNCCN publishes 10 issues each year: monthly, with combined issues for May/June and November/December.

All articles except guest commentaries (which are evaluated for suitability by members of the editorial board) undergo full peer review. Reviewers are selected by the issue editors from our editorial board, guidelines panels, and the oncology community at large based on their expertise in the topic.

Is JNCCN accessible online?

The NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology™ are available free online. Other content, including tables of contents, correspondence, and downloadable articles (in PDF format) are available at Ingenta, via online subscription or as individual downloads for a nominal fee. NCCN Task Force Reports are available (for individual downloads only)

How can I review for JNCCN?

Most reviewers are from our editorial board or are recommended by editorial board members. However, physicians and other experts in the field of oncologic care can submit their names as potential reviewers by e-mailing Kimberly Callan with a statement detailing their areas of interest and qualifications. Please keep in mind that our need for reviewers is limited and topic-dependent.

What topics does JNCCN cover and how are the topics chosen?

The scope of the content includes the entire spectrum of oncologic health care, ranging from prevention and screening to treatment to supportive care and including public health policy. In addition, JNCCN reports rigorous outcomes data from the world's leading cancer centers while providing a forum for correspondence and commentary. View the JNCCN Editorial Calendar

Each issue focuses on a particular area or areas of cancer or cancer care. For example, previous issues have focused on cancers of the gastrointestinal system; breast cancer screening, treatment, and prevention; and various aspects of supportive care. Topics scheduled to appear in 2008 and 2009 include breast and colon cancers, myelodysplastic syndromes, screening, and genitourinary cancers.

Our goal at JNCCN is to continually update the existing understanding of all aspects of cancer care. Therefore, we publish the complete NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology™ and supporting manuscripts on each topic on a rolling basis. Additionally, updates are published based on new developments and advances in the field.

The NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology™ are updated continually, and the most recent versions are available online. Most NCCN Guidelines will be reviewed and updated in the journal every 1 to 3 years.

Is JNCCN appropriate for patients and caregivers?

JNCCN is written mainly for clinicians and other oncology care specialists. The primary audience includes physicians, pharmacists, and oncology nurses. Information for patients, caregivers, and their families, including the NCCN Patient Summaries for People with Cancer™ (which are based on the NCCN Guidelines) are available at NCCN.com.

How do I submit a manuscript to JNCCN or publish a letter to the editor?

Unsolicited original research and review articles, guest commentaries, and correspondence are welcomed, although most of the articles in the journal are invited. Please note that all full-length articles are subject to peer review and that commentaries and correspondence are evaluated for appropriateness by the editorial advisory board.

JNCCN is committed to providing a forum to enhance collaboration among cancer care providers.
