Through a collaboration with the Discovery Health Channel (DHC), NCCN is providing CME programs on television. On October 18, the newest program in this series, Living with Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, will premiere at 7:00 a.m. EDT on the Discovery Health channel. Faculty for this program are David S. Ettinger, MD, from the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland; Steven J. Feigenberg, MD, from Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Mark G. Kris, MD, from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York.
As part of the Living with Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer program, faculty will describe new systemic treatment regimens for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), list criteria for selecting the best treatment regimen for select patients with advanced NSCLC, identify strategies to help decrease treatment-related side effects of systemic therapy for NSCLC, and describe decision-making paradigms for selecting palliative therapies in patients with advanced NSCLC.
NCCN has been working with the Discovery Health Channel to provide CME on television since early 2009. The Living with Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer program is the fourth program to air in a series on various cancer sites. Past programs included Adjuvant Therapy in Breast Cancer: From Testing to Treatment, which attracted approximately 1,800,000 viewers across all airings. More recent programs, including Metastatic Colon Cancer: The Continuum of Care and Kidney Cancer: New Treatments Bring New Hope attracted over 2,000,000 television viewers each. Broadcasts are also web streamed the Discovery Health Channel website, www.discoveryhealthCME.com. Audio and video podcasts and interactive case studies are also available online. NCCN also is able to provide past programs on DVD through the NCCN online catalog.
On November 22, 2009, a second new program will premiere on Discovery Health titled Metastatic Breast Cancer: Individualizing Treatment. Faculty for this program will include William J. Gradishar, MD, from the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University; Beryl McCormick, MD, from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; and John Ward, MD, from Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah.
