NCCN and Proventys to Launch Novel Decision Support System

By Kathryn Barker, Communications Coordinator

NCCN has entered into an exclusive collaboration with Proventys, a leader in advanced decision support technologies, to introduce the Proventys CDS Oncology™ system, a first-of-its-kind Web platform designed to arm oncologists with the information and evidence necessary to deliver high-quality patient care. Through this novel, point-of-care platform, Proventys and NCCN are integrating the standard in oncology practice guidelines with technologies that enable clinicians to assess individual patient factors and make decisions along cancer treatment paths more effectively.  It is expected that this tool will be made generally available to Proventys customers in the Fourth Quarter of 2010. For more information, please visit the Proventys CDS Oncology webpage.

The NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines™) – the recognized standard for clinical policy in oncology – are the most comprehensive and most frequently updated clinical practice guidelines available in any area of medicine. Covering 97 percent of all patients with cancer and updated on a continual basis, the NCCN Guidelines™ are developed through an explicit review of the evidence integrated with expert medical judgment and recommendations by multidisciplinary panels from NCCN Member Institutions.

Proventys CDS Oncology system places the power of the NCCN Guidelines at the point-of-care. The system uses smart technology to help clinicians navigate the NCCN Guidelines more easily and to make important care decisions based on individual patient characteristics.  To ensure clinicians are referencing the most up-to-date evidence, Proventys CDS Oncology provides real-time alerts for immediate notification of critical updates to the NCCN Guidelines.

Using the NCCN Guidelines, Proventys CDS Oncology highlights individualized treatments paths within seconds. It advises appropriate lab tests based on the patient’s cancer type and assists with staging decisions and regimen choices as suggested by the NCCN Guidelines.

The system will initially include NCCN Guidelines for Breast, Colon, and Non-Small Cell Lung Cancers as well as Hodgkin Lymphoma. As the only NCCN-endorsed, decision support tool of its kind, Proventys CDS Oncology offers a highly innovative web platform that guides clinicians through recommended treatment options, helping them to deliver the standard of care powered by NCCN.
