With the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), patients, providers, and other health professionals still have many questions about the future direction of health care in the United States. Patient advocates, whose goals include acting in the best interests of the patient to ensure access to affordable and high-quality care, are at the forefront of interpreting how the Supreme Court ruling upholding the PPACA will impact patients.
On November 28, 2012, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) will convene the NCCN Patient Advocacy Summit: Patient Perspectives Across the Cancer Care Continuum to bring together a broad range of stakeholders, including but not limited to, patient advocates, providers, employers, and industry representatives within the oncology community. This invitation-only Summit will provide a forum to discuss ongoing changes to the health care system, explore patient interaction with the health care system across the continuum of care, and allow relevant stakeholders to discuss strategies for meeting patients’ treatment, survivorship, and other needs. The one-day Summit will be opened by The Honorable Ellen Tauscher, cancer survivor and former Under Secretary of State for Arms Control & International Security and Member of Congress, and will be moderated by Dr. Clifford Goodman of The Lewin Group. The Summit will include a series of roundtable discussions with expert speakers. Look for further information and a summary of the Summit in a future issue of eBulletin.
