NCCN Nursing Program: Advancing Oncology Nursing
Kristina M. Gregory, RN, MSN, OCN, Vice President of Clinical Information
The 2012 NCCN Nursing Program: Advancing Oncology Nursing™ on March 14, 2012 will provide oncology nurses with comprehensive and clinically relevant information regarding the management of patients with cancer. This program will focus on genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancer, cancer pain management, challenges of oral therapy regimens, dermatologic toxicities, nursing considerations for advanced lung cancer and advanced colorectal cancers, and the nurse's role in cancer survivorship care. Oncology nurses will leave this program with information to provide the best clinical care and patient education to further improve their patients' quality of life.
To better meet the needs of the oncology nursing community, there were important changes to the NCCN Nursing Program this year to improve the educational experience for the oncology nurse.
- The length of the program was extended, to offer an extra educational topic, 'Cancer Survivorship Programs: Who, What and How?'. The extended program length enables more continuing education credits for attendees.
- This extra educational topic will be in a new presentation format. There will be a panel of three expert clinicians from NCCN Member Institutions discussing important aspects of survivorship care, including the opportunity for a question and answer session with the experts.
- The scope of the program was modified to open participation to all oncology nurses seeking clinically relevant and practical information at an advanced level.
The NCCN Nursing Program is a great opportunity to learn from leading experts in oncology nursing, share your experiences, and network with your fellow nursing colleagues. As in previous years, participants in the NCCN Nursing Program on March 14, 2012, qualify for complimentary registration to the NCCN Annual Conference: Clinical Practice Guidelines & Quality Cancer Care™, March 15 – 18, 2012.
