On 21 June 2014, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) cohosted the NCCN/JCCNB Seminar in Japan, focusing on triple negative breast cancer. The Japan Comprehensive Cancer Network, Breast (JCCNB) has worked with NCCN since June 2005 to translate the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®) for Breast Cancer into Japanese and to explain differences between treatment guidelines in Japan and the United States regarding breast cancer.
At the seminar, Robert W. Carlson, MD, Chief Executive Officer, NCCN, provided an overview of the NCCN Guidelines® development process.
“NCCN in honored to have collaborated with JCCNB on the breast cancer seminars over the years,” said Dr. Carlson. “Developments in cancer research – especially in the area of breast cancer – make it important that providers are aware of the latest treatment advances and guidelines and how their implementation varies from region to region. NCCN looks forward to working with JCCNB and other international organizations to provide information and education exchanges in the future.”
In addition to Dr. Carlson and speakers from JCCNB, William Gradishar, MD, Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, Chair, NCCN Breast Cancer Guidelines Panel, presented on recent advances in treatment of triple negative breast cancer; and Melinda Telli, MD, Stanford Cancer Institute, NCCN Breast Cancer Guidelines Panel member, presented on the elements of clinical care of triple negative breast cancer.
