Program Overview

The NCCN 2007 Nursing Program is designed to provide advanced practice oncology nurses with information on a variety of topics integral to quality cancer care. It consists of several presentations focused on the complexities of cancer care, symptom management and supportive care issues, and leading strategies to advance nursing research. This presentation will focus on lymphedema, a significant complication from breast cancer-related therapy. This presentation will discuss the patient population at risk for developing lymphedema, the impact of lymphedema on a patient’s quality of life, and strategies for the early recognition and management of lymphedema.

Educational Objectives

Following this activity, participants should be able to do the following:

  • Describe risk factors that may contribute to the development of lymphedema
  • Discuss the impact of lymphedema on a patient’s quality of life
  • Describe current strategies for the recognition and management of lymphedema

Intended Audience

This educational activity is designed to meet the educational needs of advanced practice nurses who manage patients with cancer.

Activity Instructions

Contact hours will be awarded to participants who listen to the presentation and complete the evaluation.  Participants should review the learning objectives and faculty disclosure statements prior to listening to a presentation in its entirety.  You must be connected to the Internet in order to review and complete the evaluation form.  A certificate of completion will be electronically generated once you complete the evaluation form.  To receive contact hours, this activity must be completed no later than August 29, 2008.  There is no fee for participating in this activity.
