Program Overview
The NCCN 2007 Nursing Program is designed to provide advanced practice oncology nurses with information on a variety of topics integral to quality cancer care. It consists of several presentations focused on the complexities of cancer care, symptom management and supportive care issues, and leading strategies to advance nursing research. This presentation will focus on the treatment options available for localized prostate cancer, which have varying side effects that could impact a patient’s decision for course of treatment. This presentation will discuss current therapy options for localized prostate cancer and related side effects, the impact on a patient’s treatment decisions and survivorship issues after treatment for prostate cancer.
Educational Objectives
Following this activity, participants should be able to do the following:
- List the current treatment options available for localized prostate cancer
- Discuss how treatment options and related side effects can impact a patient’s decision regarding course of treatment
- Describe survivorship issues for a patient treated for prostate cancer
Intended Audience
This educational activity is designed to meet the educational needs of advanced practice nurses who manage patients with cancer.
