Program Overview

This presentation will focus on the management of primary and chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia in patients with hematologic malignancies, particularly leukemias.  The role of prophylactic platelet transfusions, thrombopoietic cytokines, and novel first- and second-generation thrombopoietic growth factors will be highlighted.

Educational Objectives

Following this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define best practices for the management of thrombocytopenia
  • Explain the role of growth factors in the management of chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia

Intended Audience

This educational activity is designed to meet the needs of physicians, nurses, and other clinical professionals who manage patients with cancer.

Activity Instructions

Continuing education credit will be awarded to participants who listen to the presentation and complete the evaluation.  Participants should review the learning objectives and faculty disclosure statements prior to listening to a presentation in its entirety.  You must be connected to the Internet in order to review and complete the evaluation form.  A statement of credit will be electronically generated once you complete the evaluation form.  To receive credit, this activity must be completed no later than November 1, 2008.  There is no fee for participating in this activity.
