Vanderbilt-Ingram is a
Vanderbilt-Ingram's clinical enterprise offers access to some of the nation's foremost experts in cancer clinical care delivered with a multi-disciplinary approach. The Center's 150 clinicians see more than 4,000 new cancer patients each year. Particular strengths include colorectal, breast, lung, head and neck, neurologic, prostate and renal cancers; melanoma, sarcomas; leukemias, lymphomas and myelomas; survivorship and post-cancer wellness; and clinical trials. Clinical trials are also available in more than a dozen locations in five states through the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Affiliate Network.
A comprehensive survivorship program is being developed at Vanderbilt to focus on the long-term physical, emotional and practical issues facing cancer survivors and family members. This clinic, to be initially located within the Henry-Joyce Cancer Clinic in early 2009, will provide services for all cancer survivors, regardless of type of cancer, age at diagnosis, and where they received their cancer treatment. REACH for Survivorship also will provide access to research to improve cancer survival and quality of that survivorship; patient and health care provider education; patient advocacy; and access to wellness and fitness programs.
Known for its focus on translational research and team science, Vanderbilt-Ingram has been awarded numerous multi-investigator grants involving researchers from a wide variety of disciplines. These include Specialized Programs of Research Excellence in breast, gastrointestinal and lung cancers; a Molecular Signatures of Lung Cancer grant; a Minority Partnership grant with Meharry Medical College, a historically black medical school dedicated to addressing health disparities and the needs of the underserved; a Clinical Proteomic Technology Assessment for Cancer grant. The Center's team in population-based science and control focus on epidemiologic studies to better understand and address the causes of cancer, through large cohorts including the Southern Community Cohort Study of 90,000 residents of the Southeastern United States, two-thirds of them African American; large cohorts of men and women based in Shanghai, and other large cohorts in Denmark.
