Profile

Yale Cancer Center combines a tradition of innovative cancer treatment and quality care for our patients. A National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center for over 40 years, Yale Cancer Center is one of only 41 Centers in the nation. Comprehensive cancer centers play a vital role in the advancement of the NCI’s goal of reducing morbidity and mortality from cancer through scientific research, cancer prevention, and innovative cancer treatment.

Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven treats more cancer patients than any other hospital in Connecticut. A team from one of Smilow's 12 cancer programs is available to discuss each patient's diagnosis and therapy options. This results in the development of a unique, comprehensive treatment plan for each patient that can include surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, a combination of treatments or conservative monitoring. Smilow Cancer Hospital is a leader in personalized cancer care through innovative tumor profiling techniques used to analyze every patient's cancer.

Patient Care

At Smilow Cancer Hospital, we are committed to making sure that each patient has an outstanding and positive cancer care experience; and to a steadfast focus on patient- and family-centered care. We offer the latest in screening and diagnosis, genetic counseling, treatment, psychosocial support, pain management, rehabilitation, and long-term, follow-up care. Building on the scientific traditions of Yale Cancer Center, we are dedicated to interdisciplinary cancer research in basic science, translational research and prevention and control. The physicians, nurses, scientists, and staff at Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital are leaders in cancer research and patient care.
