Cancer cells spread through blood or lymph vessels in
the lungs. Lymph is a clear fluid that gives cells water
and food and helps to fight germs. It travels in vessels
like blood does. Lymph nodes are small groups of cells
that remove germs from lymph. Lung cancer often first
spreads to the lymph nodes in the lungs and then to the
lymph nodes between the lungs. See Figure 2.
