Program Overview
The program is designed to provide advanced practice oncology nurses with information on a variety of topics integral to quality cancer care. Presentations will include the following topics: the emotional needs of cancer patients and how advanced practice nurses can meet those needs; management of sarcoma; managing venous thromboembolic disease in cancer patients; changes in the treatment and management of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma; and managing the complications of cancer treatment in cancer survivors.
Educational Objectives
Following this program, participants should be able to:
- Explain the emotional and informational concerns of patients with cancer
- List strategies to assist patients in communicating their concerns to their oncology practitioner
- Identify the types of sarcoma and respective diagnostic considerations
- Provide examples of current treatment modalities for the management of sarcoma
- Describe the patient population at risk for the development of venous thromboembolism
- Discuss the current treatment strategies for managing venous thromboembolism
- Recognize the patient population at risk for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
- Summarize current treatment strategies for managing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
- Compare current therapy options for patients with advanced renal cell cancer
- Discuss the nursing considerations for patients receiving therapy for advanced renal cell cancer
- Describe the medical and psychosocial effects of cancer therapy
- List specific patient populations at risk for developing late effects of cancer therapy
- Outline appropriate survivorship care planning strategies for cancer survivors
Intended Audience
This educational activity is designed to meet the educational needs of advanced practice oncology nurses who manage patients with cancer.

This activity is approved for 5.3 contact hours. National Comprehensive Cancer Network is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
