Program Overview
This program is designed to provide advanced practice oncology nurses with information on a variety of topics integral to quality care of patients with cancer. Presentations will include the following topics: important issues in the management of patients with head and neck cancer, current recommendations and controversies surrounding prostate cancer screening; appropriate testing for the diagnosis of fungal infections and recommended treatment options; risk factors and management strategies for patients with cervical cancer; and concept development and implementation of nursing research.
Educational Objectives
Following this program, participants should be able to:
- Identify the need for breast cancer screening and education in women
- List patient, clinician, and system-related barriers to participation in breast cancer screening and early detection programs
- Provide examples of how advance practice nurses can become involved with breast cancer screening and early detection programs
- List the risk factors for the development of head and neck cancers
- Describe current recommendations for the management of head and neck cancers
- Provide examples of supportive care issues integral to the management of patient with head and neck cancers
- List the risk factors for development of cervical cancer
- Describe current management options for patients with cervical cancer
- Provide examples of fertility/sexuality issues in managing patients with cervical cancer
- Identify populations at risk for prostate cancer
- List screening modalities that are used currently or are in development for prostate cancer
- Provide examples of some of the controversies in prostate screening
- Describe the clinical incidence and significance of fungal infections in cancer patients
- Identify populations at risk for fungal infections
- Outline the prevention and management strategies for fungal infections
- Identify opportunities for nurses to generate research related to the NCCN Guidelines
- Identify resources to support nursing research
- Provide an example of current research involving the NCCN Guidelines
Intended Audience
This educational activity is designed to meet the educational needs of advanced practice nurses who manage patients with cancer.
Accreditation
This activity is approved for 5.0 contact hours. National Comprehensive Cancer Network is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Accommodations
NCCN is offering 2009 NCCN Nursing Program participants a special rate within our designated room blocks. To obtain this special rate, you must be fully registered as an attendee of the program and submit the accommodations request form. NCCN must receive your Program Registration and Accommodations Request Form no later than January 28, 2009 to guarantee space at the discounted rate. One night’s lodging will be charged by NCCN at the time of booking for all registrants. All additional nights will be charged to the provided credit card by NCCN at the conclusion of the meeting. Attendees are entitled to up to 5 consecutive conference nights (including Tuesday night) at the special rate. Those attendees paying by check should submit payment for all required nights in advance of the meeting. Housing charges are non-refundable for cancellations, no-shows, and early departures. A $50 administration fee will be charged for any name substitution. Any requests for changes to a room reservation must go through NCCN and not the hotel. Attendees submitting forms after January 28, 2009 will be contacted by NCCN regarding program and hotel room availability

A limited number of rooms are also available at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Hollywood, FL for $99.50 plus taxes per night. This rate is only guaranteed through January 28, 2009. Scheduled shuttle service will be available for conference attendees between this property and The Westin Diplomat Conference Center. The hotel is also within a short walking distance to the conference center.
The Crowne Plaza Hotel permits smoking only in designated outdoor areas. Attendees submitting forms after January 28 will be contacted by NCCN regarding hotel room rate and availability.
These special rates are only guaranteed through January 28, 2009.
You will need a valid credit card when completing the Accommodations Request Form. A credit card will also be required when checking-in to the hotel to cover all incidentals.
