New and Updated NCCN Patient Resources for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Now Available

By Laura Hanisch, PsyD, Medical Writer/Patient Information Specialist

The National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) has published an updated and newly redesigned NCCN Guidelines for Patients®: Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). This publication is made possible in part through generous sponsorship from the Lung Cancer Alliance and Lung Cancer Research Council, Inc.

“NCCN and the NCCN Foundation are grateful to Lung Cancer Alliance and Lung Cancer Research Council for their generous support of this important patient resource,” said Marcie R. Reeder, MPH, Executive Director, NCCN Foundation®. “Lung Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, and we are proud to offer patients easy-to-understand treatment information that they can use when making treatment decisions with their clinicians and families.”

The 2015 Version of the NCCN Guidelines for Patients®: NSCLC includes the recommendations in the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®) for NSCLC, Version 7.2015. Information on diagnostic and staging plans has been added to the patient resource, and systemic therapy regimens have been updated. To view a list of updates from NCCN Guidelines for Patients®: NSCLC, Version 2014, visit NCCN.org/patients.

“We are proud to collaborate with NCCN to provide the most up-to-date information on treatment recommendations to those diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer. These updated recommendations reflect the incredible advancements being made in the quest to increase lung cancer survival,” said Maureen Rigney, Lung Cancer Alliance, Director of Community and Support Services.

“From my experience, lung cancer patients need to be their own best advocate. The patient guide gives them the tools to understand and conquer their disease,” said Thomas E. Cappiello, President, Lung Cancer Research Council.

In conjunction with the NCCN Guidelines for Patients®, the first NCCN Quick Guide™ series for NSCLC has been published. Broken into two versions, Treatment Planning and Treatment Options, these resources summarize key points of the NCCN Guidelines for Patients®: NSCLC, Version 2015.
