NCCN Participates at ESMO 2017

By Jorge Bacigalupo, Global Business Development Program Manager, NCCN

On September 8th – 12th, 2017, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) exhibited at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Annual Congress in Madrid, Spain, highlighting the many global solutions and resources that NCCN has to offer.

At the ESMO conference, NCCN also presented a poster titled, “Resource-Stratification of National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) Head and Neck Cancers Guideline”, on Sunday, 10 September.

The poster described the need and reasoning behind the creation of the NCCN Framework for Resource Stratification of NCCN Guidelines (NCCN Framework™) for Head & Neck Cancers: Lip and Oral, as well as the process and the results of said creation. The NCCN Framework™ guides evidence-based adaptation to available clinical treatment resources. The goal of the NCCN Framework™ is to define appropriate treatment pathways based on available resources—Basic, Core, Enhanced, and NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines In Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®)—and deliver a tool for health care providers to identify treatment options that will provide the best possible outcomes given specific resource constraints.

While in Madrid, NCCN hosted the NCCN Global Patient Advocacy Engagement Roundtable, a panel discussion for Patient Advocates in Europe to address disparities and best practices for ensuring the patient voice is always heard. Discussion across multiple stakeholders is vital to understanding the current state of oncology care, identifying gaps, and enacting meaningful change for the future. NCCN understands this importance, particularly when working across national lines and in a truly comprehensive, international capacity. In order to advance its mission and vision, NCCN will host global roundtables of experts across multi-discipline institutions on various topics relevant to advancing high-quality, global cancer care.
