Keynote address to highlight cancer concerns for the Navajo Nation. A 2015 study found that 85% of Navajo homes have uranium contamination due to proximity to abandoned uranium mines. Navajos living near these mines have higher levels of uranium in their bones than 95% of the American population. At the same time, the nearest cancer center is located more than 125 miles away from the reservation. Lynette Bonar, CEO of Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation, the only hospital on Navajo land, will be joined by a caregiver to share his story.
