23 NCCN Guidelines for Patients ® : Multiple Myeloma, 2018 2 Testing for myeloma Review Echocardiogram An echocardiogram is an imaging test of your heart. It uses sound waves to make pictures. This test is used to check how well your heart is working. It shows your doctor how well your heart is beating and pumping blood. Review Cancer tests are used to make a diagnosis, plan treatment, and check how well treatment is working. Your health history and a body exam inform your doctor about your health. Blood and urine tests check for signs of disease. Tests of tissue or fluid from the bone marrow are used to confirm myeloma. Tests that take pictures of the inside of your body may show bone damage from the cancer. These pictures can also show spots of myeloma cancer growth that are outside of your bones.
