Pancreatic cancer testing

Based on the results of the tests, your doctors will

decide if the cancer can be removed by surgery.

†

†

Cancer that is confined to the pancreas without

significant involvement of nearby blood vessels

is called resectable pancreatic cancer.

†

†

Cancer that is confined to the pancreas but

involves nearby blood vessels or structures to

a greater extent (so that it’s unclear if it can be

completely removed by surgery right away) is

called borderline resectable pancreatic cancer.

†

†

Cancer that involves nearby blood vessels or

other structures to such a significant extent that

it cannot be successfully removed by surgery is

called locally advanced unresectable pancreatic

cancer.
