What is colon cancer?

It is a cancer of cells that line the inside wall of the colon and make mucus.

What are the stages of colon cancer?

Stage 0 cancer have not grown beyond the first layer of the colon wall.

Stage I cancers have grown into inner layers of the colon wall.

Stage II cancers have grown through or outside of the colon wall.

Stage III cancers have spread to nearby small structures called lymph nodes.

Stage IV cancers have spread to distant organs, such as the liver and lungs.

What health care is needed before treatment?

All stages

A report of your health history and an exam of your body.

A test that uses a scoping tool, which allows your doctor to see

inside your entire colon (total colonoscopy).
