NCCN Flash Updates: NCCN Guidelines Updated for Rectal Cancer

NCCN has published updates to the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®), the NCCN Drugs & Biologics Compendium (NCCN Compendium®), the NCCN Radiation Therapy Compendium™, and the NCCN Imaging Appropriate Use Criteria (NCCN Imaging AUC™) for Rectal Cancer. These NCCN Guidelines® are currently available as Version 4.2023.

  • Principles of Perioperative Therapy
    • Text modified: Not every patient with rectal cancer requires trimodality treatment – trials with adaptive designs have demonstrated some patients will have favorable outcomes with selective usage of radiation or selective usage of surgery, based on reassessment of response during therapy. Adjuvant therapy for rectal cancer consists of regimens that The regimens used in patients who will undergo or have undergone surgery include both concurrent chemotherapy/RT and adjuvant chemotherapy alone. Perioperative treatment is recommended for up to a total of 3 to 6 months.
